My Thoughts On Rapture Predictions

Written on May 31, 2015 - Last updated on September 24, 2017

My comments here before the September 24, 2017 update were first written in a post I made on You Tube in response to a video which was claiming that the rapture is going to come in September 2015. I decided to post the comments as a brief article on this site since this issue is of great concern to me

I believe that the rapture is very near, and could happen at any moment. But whenever someone sets a date for it, all that does is make me wonder if that is when it won't happen. I believe that Jesus said that no one knows the day or hour of His return for a reason (in Matthew 24:36) - because He wants us to be ready at ALL times, not just on one specific date. I am sure He also knew how many people would be setting dates for His return, and I think that is another reason that He warned that no one knows the day or hour. Date setting for Christ's return has lead to disillusionment time and time again, and has also given the enemies of God occasion to mock time and time again - yet there are many who never seem to learn from that, no matter how many times it happens. This is particularly astonishing to me when I consider the damage that Harold Camping's date setting has done. Since the Lord wants us to be ready for His return at ALL times, I believe it is important that we do not even come CLOSE to setting dates for His return. Some who do so may be well meaning, but I am pleading with people to take an honest look at the damage that past date setting has already done. The last thing we need is more of that.

September 24, 2017 Update: Many well meaning people who go along with rapture predictions seem to believe that they are doing so in obedience to Christ's command to "watch" in Matthew 24. However, the following verse in that chapter has Jesus' words explaining exactly why He told us to "watch" and "be ready' in the first place: "the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect". (Matthew 24:44). There are signs for the second coming, and I think it will be rather obvious when that will happen after people have witnessed the events of the tribulation period.... so it can only be a rapture before the tribulation period that people will not expect. In other words, that is when He will come as "a thief in the night" (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Many who have gone along with rapture predictions are excited about Christ's return, and I can't condemn anyone for that. But I do hope this will help people to see that to truly watch and be ready for His return as He intended is to do so at all times, not on just one specific date.
