I am going to start out this article by being blunt: I am sincerely astonished by those who claim to take the Bible seriously while also denying what the Bible says about it's origin. If the following statement in the Bible is a lie, then we don't even have a reason to believe that it was written by "good men", as some who deny the following claim have suggested. If the following claim is not true, that would have to mean that the Bible was written by liars, which would give us no reason to trust anything else it says. Here is the claim that I am referring to....

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

When someone denies the above claim, yet they also claim to know which parts of the Bible are true, they are making themself out to be the arbiter of truth (which is the ultimate arrogance), even if that is not their intention. They may have deluded themself into thinking that God has guided them to know which parts of the Bible are true and which parts are not, but God guides us through words, just as any person who would guide someone to know what is true and what is not. If you are not going by the words that have come directly from the mind of God, then all that is left for you to go by is your own feelings and intuition, which many people mistake as "hearing from God". One problem is that postmodrenism has now left many with a wordless "faith". And while many postmodernist's deny that truth is absolute, they arrogantly make themselves out to be the arbiter of truth as well, although they don't seem to realize it. As one example of this, I saw Dave Hunt in a debate with an atheist with a postmodern worldview back in 2008. Although the atheist denied that truth is absolute, he also responded to one of Dave's arguments by hypocritically saying, "yeah, and I am right and your wrong". Yet if truth is not absolute, then no one is right, and no one is wrong, which would mean that there is no reason for a debate in the first place.

Frankly, the contradictory mindset of postmodernist's often makes it seem like they are just playing games with words in order to avoid accountability to God. But at least the atheists commonly admit that they don't honor the Bible rather than pretending to honor it. It makes even less sense for someone to study the Bible because they think it was written by "good men" who are lying about it's origin. That is a completely contradictory way of thinking, and you would have to be doing some serious mental gymnastics in order to try to make any sense out of it.

In my article titled "Rejection of Biblical Inerrancy = All Kinds of Heresy", I mentioned someone who broke contact with me for disagreeing with her on the false teaching of Annihilationism, and she also started to deny biblical inerrancy around the same time that she embraced that doctrine. So she was pretty much trying to convince me that she got this teaching from the Bible while also making it clear to me that she doesn't even really take the Bible seriously. I am sure she would call that statement judgmental, but you can't possibly take the Bible seriously if you think it is lying about it's origin. And I have no problem pointing that out since Jesus did not say that we shouldn't judge at all. He said to judge with righteous judgement in John 7:24. In fact, some of the most judgmental people I have come across are the ones who condemn others for judging. They are judging as well, but they judge according to appearance. I am doing my best to judge based on what God Himself has said since He is the arbiter of truth.

Knowing truth is not based on any special abilities that we may have, and that is why I see no arrogance in pointing out that it can be known. Jesus said, "if you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31-32). It's as simple as that. Just abide in His word rather than doing mental gymnastics to try to explain away parts of His word that you don't like.
